16 Days in Serbia Campaign 2006

The campaign “16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women” in Serbia was organized by Autonomous Women’s Center in collaboration with Women at Work, Reconstruction Women’s Fund and over 50 women’s NGOs and activists in 40 cities in Serbia: Nis, Prijepolje, Vrbas, Kula, Srbobran, Backi Petrovac, Backa Topola, Pozarevac, Sombor, Subotica, Zrenjanin, Indjija, Grocka, Gornji Milanovac, Novi Becej, Pirot, Negotin, Novi Pazar, Tutin, Leskovac, Vlasotince, Bor, Vranje, Knjazevac, Krusevac , Valjevo, Uzice, Pozega, Bajina Basta, Kragujevac, Velika Plana, Smederevo, Loznica, Majdanpek, Subotica, Kikinda, Novi Sad, Zajecar, Cacak, Kraljevo.

Being organized in the midst of pre-election campaign, this year “16 Days’ under the slogan “Do you see violence against women”, aimed to raise the level of social and political consciousness of the necessity of preventing violence against women, as well as the diversion of attention to the problem of lack of national strategies and cooperation among responsible bodies and institutions. “The goal of the campaign was to call the citizens and the victims / survivors of violence to address the state for their rights to protection.”

This year’s performance, which marks the beginning of the campaign, appeared in 10 cities in Serbia: 25.11. Belgrade, 27.11. Novi Sad, 29.11. Velika Plana, 29.11. Kragujevac; 1.12. Novi Becej, 2.12. Leskovac; 2.12. Nis; 6.12. Grocka; 8.12. Krusevac, 9.12. Uzice, ending in Belgrade, on December 10th, International Human Rights Day.

“The goal of the performance was to symbolically present the lives of women who are daily faced with violence, believing that they have no choice, but also to send a positive message that the various efforts to put an end to violence are invested. At the same time, the idea was to encourage the audience to think about the prevalence of violence, and the interactivity of the event should wake up the sense of responsibility as well. “

Performance is made and coordinated by organization Women at Work, in cooperation with the Autonomous Women’s Center, Balkan Community Initiatives Fund, Reconstruction Women’s Fund and local women’s groups from the cities in which the performance took place.

c. MEDIA SPONSORS  

The campaign is supported by fifty-nine (59) media, and eleven (11) NGOs in Belgrade and Serbia, which makes a total of seventy (70) sponsorships

  • TELEVISION – six (6) Belgrade, one (1) production house and fifteen (15) in Serbia, a total of twenty-two (22)
  • RADIO – fourteen (14) Belgrade and seven (7) in Serbia, a total of twenty-one (21)
  • NEWSPAPERS – eleven (11) of which seven (7) weekly and four (4) monthly, one (1) weekly from Serbia, a total of twelve (12)
  •  WEBSITE – four (4) commercial and eleven (11) NGOs, a total of fifteen (15)

The campaign was mentioned by a total of twenty one (21) time in twelve (12) print media and six (6) internet presentation of different media

Published eleven (11) ads in nine (9) print media of which the two media, published it twice, published eight (8) texts of which are six (6) published on web sites;  two ( 2) announcements were made

Effects: During the campaign, AWC SOS received a total of 54 calls and online counseling in just one day, which showed that the campaign had very strong impact on victims / survivors and / or others to report violence against women.
