One is neither born nor becomes a woman at some specific point in time.Becoming Woman seeks to explore two substantial points: modes, strategies andresistances to the sedimentation we name “woman”/”man”; and the fact that the injunction to speak and think in the name of a singular identity – be it even the historically marginalized identity of woman – necessarily entails exclusions and hierarchies.
- Adriana Zaharijević received her BA in philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy, and her specialization and Mphil at the Faculty of Political Sciences, where she’s currently working on her PhD thesis. She is programme director at Radio Belgrade 3, and the coordinator of Belgrade Women Studies Center. Her main interests are in political philosophy, feminist theory and 19th century history.
- Helen Varley Jamieson is a writer, theatre-maker and digital artist from New Zealand. She has a Master of Arts (research) investigating her practice of cyberformance – live performance on the internet. She has created solo and collaborative performances (online and off-line), and since 2003 managed the web-based cyberformance platform UpStage.
- Ana Vilenica, art historian and theorist, custos and performer. Lives and works in Pancevo.
- Miljana Perić, professor of art music, cyberartist, PhD in progress at Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Arts, Belgrade. Her work is in theory and practice of activist art in digital environment.
- Milica Gudović – feminist and activist, Belgrade.
“Becoming Woman” is published by Reconstruction Women’s Fund in the program Education on Critical Issues.
Critical Themes: together with women’s groups working in various areas, Reconstruction Women’s Fund organizes discussions and educational programs about resistance to conservative tendencies, systematic degradation of foundations for implementation of women’s human rights and about prevention from isolation and protection of women’s groups and female activists. All the books, publications and films in the program Education on Critical Issues are used as educational materials.
