Socially engaged performance on sexual abuse of women

16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women campaign means various actions. Street performance traveling through cities in Serbia has been central to the campaign for 8 years. One aspect of social/political problem of male violence against women is in the focus of the performance each year.
Incest Trauma Center data: one in four girls in Serbia survive some form of sexual abuse.
Autonomous Women’s Center data:
- 80% of sexual perpetrators are familiar to victims
- over 70% of cases of sexual abuse happen in familiar spaces
- 87% of rape cases include death threats, in 50% threats with weapons.
Despite these statistics, women sexual abuse survivors are blamed in their surrounding and face inadequate protection by the state.
Street performance MY BODY MY TERRITORY is dedicated to women sexual abuse survivors. It tells about complex process a woman with sexual abuse experience goes through. The perforamnce follow the process from the moment of violence to the point when the woman reports the rape to the police and dares to say: a woman is never guilty for being raped, the shame is on perpetrator.
