In the last few years, RWF is supporting Pushbackmap collective through our Special Focus program. The collective’s focus is on documenting and revealing systemic, institutional violence and pushbacks at the internal, external borders of the European Union and other places. By illegal and violent expulsion as well as denying them asylum procedures and international protection, the officials are destroying the dignity of people on the move.

Organization “Okular” from Ćićevac, founded by local activists who share ideas of equality, nonviolence, and philanthropy, has created, in the last year, with the support of program Special Focus a feminist school for girls and women form rural areas with the ideas of them starting their own feminist activists actions. Francesca was born in Italy, where she got M.A. degree in pedagogy and participated in the work of several collectives and organizations. Paths of activism and informal education brought her to Serbia, and she has been part of Volunteers` Center of Vojvodina since November 2019. In her spare, but also working time, she enjoys her pedagogical and social activities, reading, and gardening.

Focus on Focus: Surviving healthcare

Although healthcare gained a public highlight, besides the diagnosis stating that it has never been worse and that there are expectations of further deterioration of public healthcare for cheap privatization, the obstacles and acrobatic navigating through healthcare remains a mystery of its kind. Through our Special Focus program, we have supported a research action of two activists, Marija Jakovljević and Jelena Veljić, and we have discussed the reasons, experiences and a certain exhaustion of their guide.

Alternative girls’ center was founded almost ten years ago, and has been a birth place of many important feminists, peace-building, and educational projects and actions for girls and young women in Kruševac and Rasina districts have occurred. Also, in the last couple of years it has became well-known for its feminist philanthropy campaigns to support girls. Tamara Šmidling: Return to Solidarity and Trust

Tamara Šmidling, an anthropologist, was born in Belgrade and lived for two decades in Sarajevo. Her main activist and professional focus are in the field of politics of memory and the ways in which societies address specific periods of their history, especially those periods of massive violence from the past. She is currently a program coordinator at Kvinna til Kvinna Foundation where she is dealing with questions of gender-based violence, women’s economic rights, sustainability, and strengthening of women’s and the feminist movement.
