Nataša Kovačević was born in former Yugoslavia, she graduated in English Department at the University of Belgrade and got her PhD at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Currently, she is a professor of English language and literatures at the Eastern Michigan University and editor of literary journal JNT: Journal of Narrative Theory.

Towards the end of 2021, stage play Marija Ručara premiered at Cultural Centre Magacin, performed by Hleb Theatre. It emerged from the poem of the same name, once being forbidden and destroyed, written by Aleksandar Vučo and Dušan Matić. Through our program of Special Focus, it was our pleasure to support the development of this stage play, making connections between the position of women workers in 1930s and today, orbiting around the basic human needs of which people are deprived by the capitalist cruelness in diverse manifestations. On this occasion, we talked to Sanja Krsmanović Tasić from Hleb Theatre, who staged this play and performs in it.

Jelena Todorović: Solidarity as a revolutionary philosophy of life

Jelena Todorović, born in Leskovac, graduated in the Italian Department at the University of Belgrade and got her PhD at the Indiana University Bloomington. She is the first in her family to attend college, and she is using her experience to support first-generation students at her University and help them navigate all spheres of university life, to identify resources at the university, and use efficiently the advantages university offers.

Recently we had the pleasure of taking part in the publication called Feminist Philanthropy: Stories of Resilience with the stories collected by Women’s Fund Armenia. We are glad to share the text from the publication written by Đurđa Trajković, RWF’s coordinator, and Galina Maksimović, RWF’s program and community coordinator, in which they reflect upon the local context of resourcing feminist movement and the foundations of Reconstruction’s working principles.

The promotion of the “Little self-educational reading book No. 6” in the city of Kragujevac.

In 2021, we have supported the work of Self-educational university “Svetozar Marković” through a series of encounters devoted to women workers, activists and theoreticians working in the late 19th century and early 20th century, as well as the translations of their texts published in “Little self-educational reading book No. 6”. On this occasion, we are talking to Irena Ristić and Saša Perić about self-education, as well as about the significance of the translated authors today.

Throughout the previous month, the entire RWF team was devoted to a campaign called Locally womanly and on the other side of borders. After 17 years of continuous awarding of “Žarana Papić” stipends, we decided to upgrade this program by enabling the budget for the stipends through individual donations of the wider community, with a particular focus on the diaspora.
